infamousmelons
Operated my 1988 300SEL to the store and maneuvered into a parking place. When I attempted to shift from drive to park, I was unable to go beyond neutral. I learned from a later model that the gearbox has a solenoid that prevents engagement of reverse gear while in motion to avoid unintentional shifting. No more symptoms apart than lately remaining in first gear until reaching a higher RPM before upshifting. I can transition from N - D - 3 - 2 effortlessly. Do you have any opinions? infamousmelons
Does anybody know the designation of the valve body or who is responsible for inspecting it?
jaybx
The valve body is an interior component containing many oil galleries and valves, serving as the core of an automatic gearbox. An accredited automotive repair facility is your optimal choice.
infamousmelons
Affirmative, I get that. I need knowledge on the internal safety switch or solenoid that inhibits the transition from neutral or drive to reverse while the vehicle is in motion. My device seems to be malfunctioning, as it activates even while I am motionless. I am considering obtaining an overhaul or rebuild kit, since it is likely necessary. It is hoped that this resolves the problem.

DarsteMyst
Position the transmission stick in Neutral and attempt to detach the rod from the Starter Lockout Switch to see whether the lever on the Starter Lockout Switch can be manipulated. Indicate the location for reinstallation.

grubscrewster
Is it possible to shift the transmission into park while the engine is not running?
infamousmelons
Negative. Unable to shift beyond Neutral (reverse or park). I inspected today and saw a little leak in a corner of the gearbox pan. Considering that low ATF levels may contribute to the issue.
