I am attempting to submit a question and am unable to ascertain the method to do so. I trust I am at the correct location.

The dipstick for the automatic gearbox of my 1990 Mercedes-Benz 560SEC is damaged. The red cap for removal has detached. I need a replacement dipstick. I am uncertain about my web findings and reluctant to make a purchase due to the possibility of acquiring the incorrect item. They are designated as NOT a dipstick to be retained inside the transmission tube. They are just for the purpose of verifying fluid levels and are to be thereafter removed.
I like to get an OEM dipstick for my vehicle that stays securely inside the tube, similar to the original component. It ought to be straightforward; but, I attribute my bewilderment to my advanced age of 84 years.

I appreciate anyone who can guide me appropriately.

The fractured dipstick may remain in the gearbox pan indefinitely. The transmission oil filter is located inside that pan, preventing that component from exiting the pan. During your next oil change, they might remove the transmission pan to service it, or you may want to wait until the scheduled transmission fluid change. Although it may seem frightening, there is no need for concern.

A suitable transmission dipstick is available on eBay for $40.

It is pouring today, hence no gardening activities; nonetheless, I see that others have responded before me.

I discovered this information at Autohausz, which I often use, along with Pelican Parts and FPL. I trust this information is beneficial.
