Illuminated red brake light on dashboard and error messages

Recommended Posts

The 2003 S430 operates and drives well. Several weeks ago, a brake light illuminated on the dashboard. Upon inspection, I discovered the fluid level was low, so I replenished it, and everything seemed to be functioning well. A few days later, I saw the signal on the dashboard again, despite the fluid level being at the full mark. I was aware that it need brakes, so I purchased them; a post on this is available here. Upon replacing the brakes, I discovered that this vehicle is equipped with sensors alone on the passenger side, despite the package including three sensors. Regardless, I fitted the brakes, and now within 10 miles of each drive, the brake light reactivates, accompanied by more faults. I have purchased a Xentry system, but it will not arrive until the end of the month. Do you have any recommendations on what I should seek out?

We changed two sensors, both located on the right side. There was none on either the front or rear left side. I own two more sensors, but I am unable to locate the appropriate connection point.

The light illuminates when the parking brake is engaged. In this scenario, the brake light will glow while driving if the brake is removed, thereby resulting in mistakes.

There is no rear left, but there should be a front left. Two electrical lines should be connected to the knuckle: one for the speed sensor and the other for the braking sensor. There exists a third wire connected to the Airmatic strut and a fourth cable linked to the Airmatic height sensor. Absence of the brake sensor cable indicates a problem. If you own it, you only need to install the sensor, precisely the inverse of the one on the right.

We have come to the realization that we did not bleed the system after the replacement of the rotors and pads. I will get a bleeder kit and attend to it promptly.

What is the connection point for the pad sensor? I possess two sensors that I can deploy, contingent upon my knowledge of their optimal placement and installation method.

This is not a brake pad wear problem, since the braking sensor would contact the rotor, causing a short circuit in the two little wires, which would activate the brake warning light when the brake pads are worn. If the issue pertains to the Parking Brake switch, the dashboard display will illuminate red as the vehicle begins to move. Consider inspecting the brake sensors and connections for metal filings that may induce a short circuit.

The vehicle's computer identifies the source of the malfunction but is unable to communicate this via a solitary Brake warning light. A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) may analyze the issue and identify its source.

Even with the absence of the left front brake sensor, it should not trigger the brake warning light. Unless there is uniform wear on both the left and right sides, a warning will not be triggered if just the left front brake exhibits early wear, suggesting potential issues with the caliper, pads, or rotor. Kindly check the brake sensors and their connections for any dirt or metal debris.
