EpicTraveler
I am in search of community expertise regarding aftermarket comfort access door handles for RH drive vehicles. LH drive vehicles are capable of acquiring inexpensive aftermarket door handles from AliExpress and other sources; however, RH drive vehicles are not. The painted outer handle ornamentation can be readily replaced; however, is it possible to use the LH drive variants on the RH drive cars?
FilmBuff007
The keyholes are the reason for the distinction in the front. The rear is identical.
AnonymousCritic
Door handles that are inexpensive aftermarket comfort access options? Have you conducted a search on the issues that OEM comfort access door handles that fail to function cause? Cheap aftermarket items increase the likelihood of future complications. EpicTraveler
False. In addition to the malfunctioning handle, what potential complications could they potentially induce in other components? I am willing to replace a handle on multiple occasions; it is a two-minute task. Battery depletion appears to be the sole explanation for a malfunctioning handle. EpicTraveler
The painted cover contains the keyhole. I would employ the current cover for the new handle. I am inquiring as to whether the cover of an OEM RHD front-right handle will function on an aftermarket LHD front-right handle.
TravelGuru29
Simply access the door handle diagram on a website such as www.realoem.com and verify that the cover contains the identical part number. The supplemental column can be used to determine whether the car data is specific to LHD or RHD, or if it can be used on either side. I am unable to determine the exact appearance of the items; however, they may be reversible or mirrored, with each side having its own cover, similar to the left and right hands of an individual. EpicTraveler
Original part numbers differ between RHD and LHD. RHD: 51217231932 51217231933 LHD: 51217231931 51217231934 These are supplied as a single component. The cover is not available for purchase separately; however, it can be detached and reattached to the new handle. I may remove my own from the vehicle to ascertain whether the component beneath the cover is symmetrical. I may need to acquire it and test it on the driver's door latch. TravelGuru29
Symmetrical was the term that my mind was seeking. That is the aspect of the cover that requires evaluation. It appears that each component has a distinct part number for LHD or RHD, which implies that the overall part has a specific design for each location. However, if the cover is symmetrical, it could likely be exchanged. It would be comparable to the exterior side mirror housings as opposed to the mirror glass. The mirror housings are different for LHD vs RHD, as they are not symmetrical and are angled and positioned specifically for the driver's point of view. However, the mirror glass (mounted inside the housing) is symmetrical, allowing for the use of any combination of plain, convex, or aspherical mirror glass in an LHD or RHD vehicle.
