VirtualVoyager
Contemplating the substitution of the original equipment manufacturer front grille on a generation 1.5 V10 with an aftermarket honeycomb variant. I like the honeycomb design while also valuing genuine OEM aesthetics. What is your opinion?
HomeChefPro
I advocate for maintaining originality. This automobile is one step away from being classified as a classic, and the original is superior. The honeycomb is aesthetically pleasing.
partexpat
I endorse the OEM Euro Black Optic. It resembles the original grill, although has a more aesthetically pleasing appearance. A discussion thread exists about the matter.
ArtisticSoul
We provide both. I would personally choose the OEM Euro.
GreenThumb
I also endorse the OEM Euro Black Optic. I own a vehicle equipped with a black honeycomb and I would promptly exchange it for a black euro-spec. In my perspective, it seems to complement the automobile more well. In my view, it remains superior than the chrome OEM grille; thus, I have not sought a replacement. A odd observation on the honeycomb: it remarkably remains rather clean. I reside in a region abundant with insects, however remarkably few adhere to the grille. It is consistently astonishing throughout a wash.
VirtualVoyager
Excellent contributions from everyone. I support you and show respect to the OEM. I really like the OEM honeycomb that was included with my B8.5 RS5. The Euro Black Optic may provide a little enhancement at most. It is unfortunate that Audi did not provide a factory honeycomb OEM option for the first generation R8.
DigitalNomad
This is a challenging decision for me. Like your previous remark, I too replaced the original component with OEM honeycomb on my former S5 in the past.
GardeningGuru
I first had my OEM grills painted gloss black (the vehicle is a V10+), but then chose a honeycomb grill, which I significantly adjusted to render the backing plate matte black instead of gloss, to more closely resemble the OEM appearance of other honeycomb grills in the Audi lineup. I have included an authentic Gen 2 facelift R8 grille badge.
