2.5-liter engine in the V70 R

I am considering purchasing the V70 R; however, I have seen that the 2.5-liter engine is also used in many other cars. My inquiries are as follows:

YouTube videos provide advice on how to "shim" the engine. This is ostensibly to avert the engine block from fracturing owing to gaps between the cylinder heads. However, I believe that the engineers who designed the engine intentionally included these gaps. Could someone provide more clarification?

What is the main difference among the many 2.5-liter engines in different vehicles? It is present in the V50, although it has around 250 horsepower, in contrast to the 300 horsepower found in the V70. I am aware of the distinctions among V50, V70, S40, etc., but I am not acquainted with the engine configurations.

What is the reliability of this engine compared to other lower-powered options from Volvo?

Volvo included the gaps for ventilation. That is the rationale for their actions. The many variants of the five-cylinder engines exhibit minor differences, however they remain fundamentally identical. It is my understanding that Volvo has effectively resolved the cracking concerns in the subsequent models, hence the P1 vehicles should not exhibit the same problem.

The P2R has a dependable engine; yet, it may exhibit sensitivity to heat and sometimes requires additional maintenance based on the desired power output of the user. Individuals who prefer not to modify their engines generally choose for T5 engines, such as the 2.3 or 2.4, because to its less extensive boring and superior strength in stock form compared to other options.
