I have seen discussions indicating that a software upgrade may enable this feature, but only for versions 17 and above, maybe 18 and above, but I am uncertain. While it will not be wireless initially, this can be easily remedied with a wireless dongle once CarPlay is operational.

Define "die" - does everything on the dashboard become unresponsive? All the lights illuminate, however the engine stalls.

It is likely that the back deck is making contact with the bottom of the glass or the surface upon which the glass rests. A little gap exists in that area; I used insulating foam rope to fill it. The rattling has been eliminated, although I would expect a more satisfactory resolution from the dealership.
